Meet Doc, Your Ski Instructor at Arapahoe Basin
Welcome to Arapahoe Basin, where the mountains beckon and the snow awaits! I’m thrilled to introduce myself as your ski instructor. Although I’m in my 70s, my journey on the slopes began in my mid-30s, when I learned to ski with my 10-year-old son. Neither of us had ever skied before, so we signed up for ski school. He picked it up much more quickly than I did and was mortified to be seen with me as I struggled to get up after falls. But we’re still both skiing, as are his wife and kids, a testament to the joy and fulfillment that skiing brings at any age.
I’m certified to teach Alpine Level I, Children’s Level I, and Adaptive Level I, showcasing my commitment to diverse teaching techniques. My journey began as a volunteer adaptive alpine instructor at Keystone Resort, igniting a passion for helping others on the slopes. I taught at Loveland Ski Area, spent several rewarding years at Winter Park Ski and Ride School specializing in adults. I then taught adaptive skiing at Ski Santa Fe and adults at Pajarito Mountain in Los Alamos. I then worked with the Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) at Purgatory Resort in Durango. From there, I taught at Copper Mountain and Monarch Mountain. Now, I’ve truly found my skiing home at Arapahoe Basin; the amazing people I work with, the great clients I meet on the snow, and the fantastic mountain make it a perfect fit! It’s been a wonderful mix of challenges and joys, and I can’t wait to hit the slopes again!
Skiing is not just a sport; it's a lifelong adventure that anyone can enjoy, regardless of when they start. I’m here to prove that it’s never too late to learn. It’s all about the thrill of exploration, the beauty of nature, and the camaraderie found in sharing the experience with others. Whether you’re a first-timer or looking to refine your skills, my passion for skiing and my extensive experience will help you make the most of your time on the snow.
Let’s carve some unforgettable memories together!
